“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”

What stands out at each course

Bangor graduate entry medicine
Twenty places a year at the North Wales Medical School, open to four feeder degrees and, through an assessed route with its own entrance exam, to graduates of other degrees relevant to medicine.

Cambridge graduate entry medicine
A four-year MB BChir for home students with a 2:1 in any subject, where your A-level grades, your healthcare experience and a College interview all shape the decision.

Cardiff graduate entry medicine
A four-year MBBCh that opens only to graduates of four named feeder degrees and a small number of dentists. If your degree is not on the list, Cardiff points you to its five-year course instead.

Chester graduate entry medicine
Chester's four-year MBChB is open to graduates of any subject, accepts UCAT, GAMSAT or MCAT, and asks every applicant for 70 hours of recent, relevant work experience.

King's graduate entry medicine
King's has run its four-year graduate entry course since 2004 for bioscience graduates, now in London and at a Portsmouth branch campus, with a separate new route for qualified healthcare professionals.

Liverpool graduate entry medicine
A four-year MBChB for home graduates that starts in early August and selects for interview on points for GAMSAT, degree, healthcare employment, voluntary work and widening participation, with the experience evidence submitted through a separate online form.

Manchester graduate entry medicine
A four-year MBChB for life science and health profession graduates, selected for interview on UCAT: meet the threshold with SJT Band 1 or 2 and the minimum academic criteria, and you will likely be interviewed. Manchester also publishes its own application data by entry year.

Newcastle graduate entry medicine
An accelerated MB BS for graduates of any discipline and experienced healthcare professionals, where your total UCAT score alone decides who is interviewed, then counts for half of the final ranking.

Nottingham graduate entry medicine
For 2027 entry Nottingham's four-year BMBS changes its admissions test from GAMSAT to UCAT, scores the UCAT out of 50 with verbal reasoning counted twice, and interviews on two December dates. The degree can be in any subject.

Oxford graduate entry medicine
A four-year BM BCh for graduates in applied or experimental science, with around 40 to 45 places. You apply through UCAS and an Oxford supplementary form, sit the UCAT, and if shortlisted are interviewed online at two of eleven colleges.

Pears Cumbria graduate entry medicine
Imperial's graduate entry MBBS is delivered entirely in Cumbria, for home students with a bioscience or allied healthcare degree, and its interview asks what you would bring to the region.

Queen Mary graduate entry medicine
Thirty-nine places for 2027, a UCAT gate at the fourth decile, and a panel interview online, followed by clinical years across east London and Essex.

ScotGEM graduate entry medicine
ScotGEM is a four-year graduate course run by St Andrews and Dundee with NHS partners and designed around generalist practice in rural Scotland. Expect months of living and training in the Highlands or Dumfries and Galloway.

Sheffield graduate entry medicine
Sheffield's four-year A101 course has 24 places, and every one is reserved for home life sciences graduates who meet at least two widening participation criteria. Check both rules before anything else.

Southampton graduate entry medicine
BM4 takes a 2:1 in any subject, asks for no A-levels and gives no preference to science degrees. What decides your chances is your UCAT score, then one in-person selection day with an interview and a group task.

St George's graduate entry medicine
A Tooting course open to graduates of any degree subject, selected on GAMSAT and a multiple mini interview, with past cut-offs and applicant numbers published by the university.

Surrey graduate entry medicine
Surrey's four-year BMBS takes a 2:1 in any subject and interviews online. Which admissions test you can use depends on what you studied: GAMSAT works for every degree, UCAT only for five science subjects.

Swansea graduate entry medicine
A four-year MB BCh in Swansea open to graduates of any discipline, home or international, where your test score earns the interview and the assessment day alone decides the offer.

UEA graduate entry medicine
A four-year MBBS for home fee payers with two ways in: GAMSAT with a 2:1 in any subject, or UCAT if you hold a recent biomedical-related degree. Your test score and your interview count equally at the offer stage.

Ulster graduate entry medicine
Ulster's graduate-entry medical school in Derry~Londonderry takes graduates of any subject through GAMSAT, gives priority to Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland residents, and starts in August.

Warwick graduate entry medicine
Warwick's MBChB admits only graduates, and the university describes it as the UK's largest graduate-entry medical programme. Before your UCAT total counts, your Verbal Reasoning score has to reach the mean of every test-taker.

Worcester graduate entry medicine
Worcester's Three Counties Medical School accepts UCAT, GAMSAT or MCAT, and it gives preference to local, first-generation and NHS-experienced applicants. Shortlisted applicants then sit Casper and two panel interviews.

Choosing your four
UCAS allows four medicine choices, and graduate entry and standard entry courses can be mixed. Many graduates start from their test: with a GAMSAT score, the GAMSAT courses above are the natural shortlist; with a UCAT score, the UCAT courses and the standard courses that welcome graduates. The graduate entry medicine guide covers funding, competition and how the four-year courses differ from the five-year ones, and the GAMSAT overview explains the test itself.
Interview dates for every school, including the graduate courses, are in the UK medical school interview dates table.

Graduate entry medicine in the UK: common questions
Which UK universities offer graduate entry medicine?
For 2027 entry, 22 UK courses offer four-year graduate entry medicine: Bangor, Cambridge, Cardiff, Chester, King's, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Pears Cumbria, Queen Mary, ScotGEM, Sheffield, Southampton, St George's, Surrey, Swansea, UEA, Ulster, Warwick and Worcester. ScotGEM is run jointly by St Andrews and Dundee, and Imperial's graduate course is the Pears Cumbria programme taught in Carlisle.
Which graduate entry medicine courses accept any degree subject?
15 courses accept a 2:1 in any subject for 2027 entry: Cambridge, Chester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, Queen Mary, ScotGEM, Southampton, St George's, Surrey, Swansea, UEA, Ulster, Warwick and Worcester. The others ask for a science, life science or health degree, and Cardiff and Bangor recruit mainly from named feeder degrees. Some any-subject courses still set A-level or test conditions, so check the school's page.
Which graduate entry medicine courses use GAMSAT?
GAMSAT only: Liverpool, ScotGEM, St George's and Ulster. GAMSAT or UCAT: Chester, Pears Cumbria, Surrey, Swansea, UEA and Worcester. Every other course uses the UCAT. Nottingham switched from GAMSAT to UCAT for 2027 entry.
Can international students apply for graduate entry medicine in the UK?
Yes, at 10 of the 22 courses for 2027 entry: Chester, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Surrey, Swansea, Ulster, Warwick and Worcester. Most of the others are open to home fee payers only, and Ulster gives priority to residents of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Does UCL, Birmingham or Imperial offer graduate entry medicine?
UCL and Birmingham do not run a four-year graduate course: graduates apply to their standard courses, and UCL's graduates skip the intercalated year so finish in five years. Imperial's only graduate course is taught at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine in Carlisle, not in London.
What is the best graduate entry medicine course in the UK?
No league table ranks graduate entry courses separately, so there is no official "best". The rankings rank each medical school as a whole: among the universities that run a four-year graduate course for 2027 entry, the highest placed in the Complete University Guide 2027 are Cambridge, Oxford, Cardiff, Swansea, St Andrews (ScotGEM). The best course for you depends more on which test you have sat, whether your degree subject is accepted and whether you are a home or international applicant.
How long is graduate entry medicine in the UK?
Four years at every course in the table, compared with five or six years for standard entry medicine. It leads to the same primary medical qualification and the same Foundation Programme as the longer courses.
