The short answer

King's graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry

King's College London graduate entry medicine is the four-year Graduate Entry Medicine Programme MBBS (UCAS code A102), and you need at least a 2:1 in a bioscience degree containing both Biology and Chemistry, a UCAT taken in the year you apply, and home fee status; there are no A level requirements.

King's lists degrees such as Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience and Pharmacy, and says Nursing, Psychology, straight Chemistry and straight Biology degrees do not meet the requirement. The course starts in August 2027, and graduate entrants join Year 2 of the MBBS.

King's also runs the same programme at a University of Portsmouth branch campus (A103) and a separate four-year Healthcare Entry Medicine course (A105) for qualified healthcare professionals with at least two years of full-time NHS patient-facing experience.

Eligibility

Which degrees count as bioscience for King's A102

A102 is for honours graduates in the biomedical and life sciences, and for healthcare professionals with equivalent academic qualifications. The formal rule is a 2:1 in a Biosciences subject with both Biology and Chemistry content, predicted or achieved, and you must be able to evidence it by the beginning of August in the year of entry.

PharmacologyA straight Biology degree

The list is not exhaustive. King's encourages graduates of other biomedical or life sciences degrees to apply if they feel their degree contains at least two thirds bioscience content, but it cannot review transcripts before you apply, so you judge this yourself from your modules.

Nurses: A102 is the wrong code

A nursing degree does not count as bioscience for A102. Qualified nurses and other healthcare professionals with two years of full-time NHS patient-facing experience should look at Healthcare Entry Medicine (A105), described further down this page.

Two campuses

London or Portsmouth: A102 and the A103 branch campus

Since 2024 King's has also taught its graduate entry programme at a branch campus with the University of Portsmouth, under UCAS code A103. Entry requirements, UCAT use and the shortlisting process on the A103 page match A102, and you graduate with a King's degree either way.

The two codes are separate UCAS choices, so it helps to decide which city you want to train in before you apply. The UK graduate entry course list compares other four-year options.

Selection

How King's shortlists and interviews A102 applicants

  1. 1

Sit the UCAT in the year you apply

King's has no threshold UCAT score in any year. It gives the overall score averaged across the subtests more weight than individual subtest scores, and takes the Situational Judgement Test into account when shortlisting.

  2. 2

    Shortlisting on four factors

Selectors look at your predicted or achieved 2:1 in a bioscience degree, personal statement, reference and UCAT score, in the context of your educational background. King's names examination results and the UCAT as perhaps the most important factors.

  3. 3

    Interview between November and May

No offers are made without an interview, and you must be available for one to be considered. Details come through King's Apply with the invitation.

  4. 4

Decision by the end of May

King's asks interviewees not to expect a decision until the cycle finishes in May, and aims to notify everyone by the end of May at the latest.

King's has not published the A102 interview format for 2027 entry: the format paragraph on the A102 page is dated to the 2022/3 cycle. For 2026 entry, the A103 page says interviews were conducted remotely, and the A105 page says interviews in the current cycle are remote and assess values and personality-based attributes, knowledge of topical medical issues, ethical reasoning and communication.

King's publishes figures for all its medicine programmes combined, with no year stated: about 4,500 applications a year for a total of 410 places (the A105 page gives about 5,500), and around 1,200 to 1,400 applicants interviewed across all programmes. It does not publish separate A102 numbers.

King's weights the overall UCAT score above individual subtest scores, so it may help to spread your preparation across all the cognitive subtests, for example with UCAT tutoring, and to prepare topical medical issues and ethical reasoning for the interview with interview coaching.

Strategy

Applying to King's A102 and the five-year A100 together

King's welcomes suitably qualified graduates to apply to both the four-year A102 and the five-year A100. It considers you only for the programme you apply to, so the only way to be considered for both is to put both on your UCAS application, which uses two of your medicine choices.

  • Check you meet the requirements for both programmes before you apply.
  • Deferrals and deferred-entry applications are not permitted for A102: you apply in October for entry the following year.
  • Transfers into the programme are not permitted.

Separate route

Healthcare Entry Medicine (A105): a four-year route for qualified healthcare professionals

A105 is a different course from A102, new for 2026 entry. King's describes it as the first accelerated medicine programme in the UK designed specifically for qualified healthcare professionals. It builds the bioscience and population science foundation for medicine while adapting some of the early clinical elements of a conventional degree.

A105 interviews in the current cycle are remote, and King's runs a fit-to-sit policy, so mitigating circumstances cannot be applied to interview performance afterwards; raise any problem with the admissions team at the time. As with A102, requirements must be evidenced by early August of the year of entry.

FAQs

King's graduate entry medicine: common questions

Can I apply to King's graduate entry medicine with a psychology or nursing degree?

Not to A102. King's says Nursing and Psychology degrees are not considered bioscience degrees for this programme.

A qualified nurse with a 2:1 BSc and at least two years of full-time NHS patient-facing experience can apply to Healthcare Entry Medicine (A105) instead.

Does King's accept a biology or chemistry degree for A102?

King's says a straight Chemistry degree or a straight Biology degree would not meet the requirement, because it needs a bioscience degree with both Biology and Chemistry content.

For other biomedical or life sciences degrees that are not on its list, King's encourages you to apply if at least two thirds of the content is bioscience.

What UCAT score do you need for King's GEM?

King's has no threshold UCAT score in any year. It gives the overall score across the subtests more weight than individual subtest scores and takes the Situational Judgement Test into account at shortlisting.

The UCAT must be taken in the same year you apply.

Is King's A102 interview online?

King's has not published the 2027 format for A102. Its A103 page says 2026 entry interviews were conducted remotely, and its A105 page says current-cycle interviews are remote.

Interviews run between November and May, and no offers are made without one. Details are sent through King's Apply with the invitation.

What is the difference between King's A102 and A103?

A102 is taught in London, and A103 is the same graduate entry programme taught at the University of Portsmouth branch campus, which opened in 2024.

Entry requirements match, assessments are identical, and both lead to a King's College London MBBS.

How many places does King's graduate entry medicine have?

King's does not publish a separate figure for A102. It says there are 410 places across all its medical programmes combined, with about 1,200 to 1,400 applicants interviewed across them; no year is stated.

Can I defer entry to King's GEM?

No. Deferrals and deferred-entry applications are not permitted for A102; you apply in October for entry the following year.
