The short answer

Cambridge graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry

Cambridge graduate entry medicine is the four-year Medicine (Graduate course) MB BChir, UCAS code A101, and you need home fee status, a 2:1 or above in any subject, A-levels of A*A*A (or ABB if you graduated with a first), A-level Chemistry at grade A plus one of Biology, Physics or Maths, and the UCAT.

Cambridge applicants apply to one of four Colleges (Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's or Wolfson), then complete a Graduate Course in Medicine application form by 22 October 2026. For 2027 entry Cambridge uses the UCAT overall cognitive score with no minimum threshold and does not use the situational judgement score.

Cambridge interviews by multiple mini interview, run by the Colleges, and most College interviews take place in the first three weeks of December. In the 2025 cycle Cambridge received 6 applications per place and accepted 28 students.

School grades

Your A-levels still count: Cambridge's school-grade requirement for graduates

Cambridge sets school-grade requirements for graduate applicants. For entry in 2027 or deferred entry in 2028, the minimum offer level combines your degree class with your A-level (or equivalent) grades, and the higher your degree class, the lower the A-level grades required.

Cambridge graduate course minimum offer levels, 2027 entry
Your degreeA-levelIB
2:1, or not yet completedA*A*A41 to 42 points, 776 at Higher Level
First classABB38 to 40 points, 665 at Higher Level
  • Subject requirements: A-level Chemistry at grade A or above, and at least one of Biology, Physics or Mathematics at A or AS level. IB Higher Level subjects or Scottish Highers in relevant subjects also satisfy this.
  • You do not need to meet the subject requirements to apply, and you can apply with pending qualifications.
  • Wolfson expects science study to be relatively recent: with no high-level study of these subjects in the last 7 years or so, it may include an A-level in a conditional offer. If you lack recent science A-levels but think your degree covers them, the University asks you to contact a College.
  • Wolfson states that entry requirements are based on your first bachelor's degree and do not include postgraduate qualifications, so a Masters does not make up for a 2:2.
  • The degree itself can be in any subject.

Choosing a College

Four Colleges, one course: Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's and Wolfson

Admissions decisions for Cambridge undergraduate courses rest with the Colleges, and only four offer A101. Each publishes its own detail, and some of it differs, so read the page for the College you choose.

What each College publishes about graduate medicine
CollegeWhat is published
Hughes HallUniversity page: the standard course is not offered at Hughes Hall, so it cannot be used if you also apply for the affiliated route.
Lucy CavendishCollege page for 2026 entry: MMI, normally 10 stations of 5 minutes, with clinicians, medical sciences experts and lay academics.
St Edmund'sCollege page: intake of around 10 graduate medics a year; all guaranteed a College room for the whole course. Interviews typically in January, 10 stations of 5 minutes; outcomes in late January or early February. No deferred applications.
WolfsonCollege page: online (Zoom) interviews in December, normally 8 to 10 stations of around 5 minutes. Expects recent science study (roughly the last 7 years).

Applying to the affiliated course as well

Graduates can also apply to the standard Medicine course (A100) in five years instead of six, known as the affiliated route. If you apply to both, you must use the same College for both, which rules out Hughes Hall. International graduates, who cannot apply to A101, may apply for affiliated entry to A100.

1-1 UCAT tutoring with top-decile tutors, planned around a degree or a full-time job.

Shortlisting

UCAT, the extra application form and healthcare experience: how Cambridge shortlists

  1. 1

Sit the UCAT by 24 September 2026

UCAT registration for 2027 entry closed on 16 September 2026, and the test must be taken by 24 September 2026. BMAT and GAMSAT are not accepted in its place.

  2. 2

Apply through UCAS by 15 October 2026

Choose Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's or Wolfson. St Edmund's notes that it accepts graduate medicine applications only in the October round.

  3. 3

Complete the Graduate Course in Medicine form by 22 October 2026

Cambridge emails it after your UCAS application arrives. It collects academic transcripts, a second referee (someone other than your UCAS referee), residency and citizenship information, contextual information such as free school meals eligibility, and a document detailing your healthcare work experience. Graduate medicine applicants do not complete My Cambridge Application.

  4. 4

    Shortlisting

Cambridge assesses applicants through a mixture of academic record, UCAT and interviews. St Edmund's describes applicants who meet the academic requirements being scored on the duration and variety of their work experience, their reflection and their references, by at least two assessors, with the top-scoring 90 or so invited to interview.

For 2027 entry the University looks at the UCAT overall cognitive subtest score, does not use the situational judgement score, and sets no minimum UCAT threshold. Results are used to select for interview and may be used when making offers. Our UCAT tutoring covers the cognitive subtests.

The University says work experience plays a large role in selection and that competitive candidates typically have a variety of paid or voluntary work in health or social care built up over several years. Wolfson adds that applicants whose experience is largely shadowing are unlikely to be competitive, and that qualified healthcare workers need experience outside their own discipline.

Interview

College MMIs in December, and decisions on 27 January 2027

Graduate medicine interviews are multiple mini interviews run by the Colleges, and you do not submit written work beforehand. Cambridge's admissions calendar says most College interviews take place in the first three weeks of December, and applicants interviewed in that main period hear the outcome on 27 January 2027. St Edmund's says its graduate medicine interviews typically take place in January, so check your College's timing.

  • Wolfson: online on Zoom in December, normally 8 to 10 stations of about 5 minutes each.
  • St Edmund's: 10 stations of 5 minutes, interviewed by its Directors of Studies for Graduate Medicine, with clinicians, medical sciences experts and lay academics among the interviewers.
  • The Medical Schools Council entry for 2027 lists the interview method as an online MMI plus an asynchronous (video upload) interview.

Wolfson looks for evidence of compassion, empathy, integrity and drive alongside academic ability and scientific aptitude, and St Edmund's lists compassion, empathy, critical thinking and integrity. For station practice, see our interview coaching. The interview dates table tracks when each school interviews.

FAQs

Cambridge graduate entry medicine: common questions

Do you need A-levels for Cambridge graduate medicine?

Yes. Cambridge's minimum offer level is A*A*A at A-level (or equivalent) with a 2:1 or pending degree, or ABB with a first-class degree, plus A-level Chemistry at grade A and one of Biology, Physics or Maths.

You do not have to meet the subject requirements to apply, and a College may add an A-level to a conditional offer if your science study is not recent.

What UCAT score do you need for Cambridge graduate medicine?

There is no minimum. Cambridge uses the UCAT overall cognitive subtest score for 2027 entry, does not use the situational judgement score, and considers the result alongside your academic record and interview.

Can I apply to Cambridge graduate medicine with a non-science degree?

Yes, the degree can be in any subject at 2:1 or above. You still need to meet the Chemistry and second-science requirement, and a College may set an A-level as an offer condition if you have not studied these subjects recently.

Which Cambridge Colleges offer graduate medicine?

Four: Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's and Wolfson. If you also want to apply for the affiliated standard course, choose Lucy Cavendish, St Edmund's or Wolfson, because Hughes Hall does not offer the standard course.

Can international students apply to Cambridge graduate medicine?

No. A101 is open only to applicants with home fee status. International graduates can apply for affiliated entry to the standard Medicine course (A100).

When are Cambridge graduate medicine interviews?

Most College interviews take place in the first three weeks of December 2026, with decisions on 27 January 2027. Wolfson interviews online in December, while St Edmund's says its graduate medicine interviews typically take place in January.

Does a Masters help if I have a 2:2?

No. Wolfson College states that entry requirements are based on your first bachelor's degree and that postgraduate qualifications are not included.

Is there an extra application form for Cambridge A101?

Yes. After your UCAS application arrives, Cambridge emails the Graduate Course in Medicine application form, due by 22 October 2026. It needs transcripts, a second referee and a healthcare work experience document.
