“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”

Newcastle graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry
Newcastle graduate entry medicine is the four-year Medicine and Surgery (Accelerated Programme) MB BS (UCAS code A101), and you need a 2:1 honours degree in any subject or an integrated master's, or to be a practising healthcare professional with post-registration qualifications and at least five years' post-registration patient-facing experience, plus a UCAT taken in the year you apply.
For A101, Newcastle's 2027 admissions policy says the UCAT score forms the sole basis for ranking applicants for interview once they pass the academic screen. The final ranking weights that score and the interview score 50:50, and Newcastle says there are currently 25 places.
Home applicants usually sit a multiple mini interview (MMI) on campus, generally between December and February, and international applicants, who are accepted on A101, have a panel interview with two selectors. The 2027-28 Year 1 fee is £10,050 for home students and £59,300 for international students.
Any 2:1, or five years as a registered healthcare professional
Newcastle designed A101 for graduates of any discipline and for people whose professional experience qualifies them. There is no subject list, and A levels and GCSEs are not scored for A101. Our graduate entry medicine overview covers how the UK graduate entry courses compare.
| Route | What Newcastle asks for |
|---|---|
| Graduate | At least a 2:1 honours degree or an integrated master's, achieved or expected, in any subject |
| Practising healthcare professional | Educated to an appropriate level (for example, a registered nurse or pharmacist), with post-registration qualifications such as a certificate, diploma or master's, and at least five years' post-registration experience in a role with significant patient contact |
- If your undergraduate degree is more than five years old, you must show continued engagement with education, such as postgraduate study; applicants with no further education since their degree are not considered.
- Master's and PhD qualifications are not scored.
- Graduate applicants are not eligible for contextual offers, because Newcastle treats a completed degree as evidence you have already accessed higher education.
- Newcastle Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates aiming for maxillofacial surgery have their own arrangement: up to four may be interviewed, with the possibility of up to one A101 place.

Your UCAT total decides the Newcastle interview
For A101, Newcastle screens your degree (achieved or predicted) and then ranks applicants by total UCAT score alone for interview. Applicants with Situational Judgement Test Band 4 are not considered further, and only UCAT results from the current test cycle count.
| Year of entry | A101 interview threshold | UCAT scale |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 3030 | Out of 3600 |
| 2022 | 3010 | Out of 3600 |
| 2023 | 2930 | Out of 3600 |
| 2024 | 2820 | Out of 3600 |
| 2025 | 2740 | Out of 3600 (UCAT sat in 2024) |
Newcastle says the threshold differs in each cycle because it depends on the scores of that year's applicants. The UCAT removed Abstract Reasoning in 2025, so scores from 2026 entry onwards are out of 2700 and cannot be compared directly with the table. Newcastle has not published an A101 threshold for 2026 or 2027 entry.
The UCAT counts twice
Your total UCAT score is your academic screen score for A101, and the final ranking weights the academic screen and the interview 50:50. Your SJT band also feeds the interview score, with the weight of one MMI station: Band 1 earns 5 points, Band 2 earns 3 and Band 3 earns 1.
Because the UCAT decides the interview list and half of the final ranking, it may be worth planning several weeks of timed practice; our UCAT tutoring page sets out how that preparation can be structured.

MMI on campus for home applicants, a two-person panel for international
Newcastle emails interview invitations to applicants who reach the threshold, and interviews generally take place between December and February. Applicants who do not respond to emails or miss deadlines are not offered further interview opportunities, and where booking is your responsibility, the admissions team does not contact applicants who fail to book.
| Home applicants | International applicants | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Multiple mini interview, with role play and interview questions | Panel of two selectors asking interview questions |
| Where | On campus | On campus, or remotely if more convenient |
| Scoring | Each station scored by an individual selector | Each selector scores separately |
Both formats assess the same qualities, drawn from Newcastle's list of categories: integrity, empathy and self-awareness, motivation and commitment to be a doctor, compatibility with the MBBS programme, teamwork and leadership, personal organisation, and persistence and resilience. Selectors do not see your personal statement or reference before or during the interview.
Newcastle has no specific work experience requirement, but says selectors look for examples of how you have shown a commitment to caring. Practising station answers against those categories with MMI mock interviews is one way to prepare.

Newcastle graduate entry medicine: common questions
What UCAT score do you need for Newcastle graduate entry medicine?
Newcastle does not set a fixed score; the threshold depends on each year's applicants. It ranks A101 applicants by total UCAT score alone for interview and does not consider SJT Band 4.
Its published A101 interview thresholds were 2820 for 2024 entry and 2740 for 2025 entry, both on the old UCAT scale out of 3600. No threshold on the current 2700 scale has been published for A101.
Does Newcastle accept any degree for A101?
Yes. Newcastle accepts a 2:1 honours degree or an integrated master's in any subject, achieved or expected, so final-year students can apply.
Can a nurse apply to Newcastle graduate entry medicine without a 2:1?
Yes, through the healthcare professional route, which is open to practising professionals educated to the level of, for example, a registered nurse or pharmacist, who hold post-registration qualifications and have at least five years' post-registration experience with significant patient contact.
Can international students apply to Newcastle A101?
Yes. Newcastle's 2027 policy says A101 is open to home and international students, who are ranked separately. International applicants have a panel interview with two selectors, on campus or remotely.
The Year 1 fee for 2027-28 is £59,300 for international students.
How many places are there on Newcastle's accelerated medicine programme?
Newcastle says there are currently 25 places on A101. The five-year A100 has approximately 342 places.
When are Newcastle graduate entry interviews?
Newcastle's 2027 policy says interviews generally take place between December and February, and invitations arrive by email. Exact dates for 2027 entry are not published.
Can I apply to both A100 and A101 at Newcastle?
Yes, but each counts as a separate choice of the four medicine choices UCAS allows, and each application is considered against applicants to that programme only.
