“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
Graduate Entry Medicine at Manchester: 2027 Entry
A four-year MBChB for life science and health profession graduates, selected for interview on UCAT: meet the threshold with SJT Band 1 or 2 and the minimum academic criteria, and you will likely be interviewed. Manchester also publishes its own application data by entry year.

Manchester graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry
To apply for Manchester graduate entry medicine (MBChB A101, four years, 2027 entry) you need a 2:1 honours degree, achieved or predicted, in the life sciences or a health profession, GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 6 (B), and a UCAT taken in 2026 with an SJT in Band 1 or 2.
Manchester sets its UCAT threshold each year after results arrive in November, so the 2027 figure is not known in advance. For 2026 entry the A101 threshold was 2080 for home applicants and 2310 for overseas applicants, on the UCAT scale out of 2700.
Manchester interviews with a five-station multiple mini interview, eight minutes per station, and applicants choose Zoom or on campus. Interviews usually run between December and early March, and international applicants can apply.
Which degrees Manchester accepts: life sciences and health professions
Manchester A101 is not an any-subject course. You need a 2:1 honours degree, held or predicted, in one of two families of subject, or an international equivalent:
| Life sciences, for example | Health professions, for example |
|---|---|
| Biomedical science | Pharmacy |
| Biochemistry | Audiology |
| Anatomy | Nursing |
| Physiology | Midwifery |
| Healthcare science | Physiotherapy |
The course page also describes relevant subjects as most biomedical and life sciences disciplines or other approved courses, and the admissions FAQs say any degree within biomedical or biological sciences or professions allied to medicine would be relevant.
Who Manchester will not consider
Manchester does not accept applicants who already hold a medical degree, or who started but did not complete a medical or healthcare degree. You must be in the final year of your degree, or have finished it, when you apply, and a predicted classification must be entered on UCAS or the application is not considered.

How Manchester's UCAT threshold decides who is interviewed
- 1
Sit the UCAT in 2026
The result is valid for one application cycle only. Reapplicants must sit the UCAT again.
- 2
Manchester sets the threshold in November
Once UCAT results for its applicants arrive, Manchester calculates a threshold from the standard of that year's scores. It cannot be confirmed in advance and varies year on year.
- 3
Threshold plus SJT Band 1 or 2
If you meet the threshold, achieve SJT Band 1 or 2 and meet the minimum academic requirements (degree subject, GCSEs, predicted classification), you will likely be invited to interview. SJT Band 3 or 4 is not currently considered, a policy Manchester says it will review as the UCAT changes.
- 4
Ranking if interview slots run short
Where high scorers outnumber interview slots, Manchester ranks candidates by UCAT total score and SJT band.
| Entry year | Threshold | UCAT scale |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 2080 home; 2310 overseas | Out of 2700 (UCAT sat in 2025) |
| 2025 | 2760 | Out of 3600 (UCAT sat in 2024) |
| 2024 | 2700 | Out of 3600 (UCAT sat in 2023) |
The 2025 and 2024 figures sit on the old four-subtest scale and cannot be compared directly with 2026. Manchester says its data is for information only and should not be used to predict future cycles.

Five stations, eight minutes each, on Zoom or on campus: Manchester's MMI
- Format: five-station multiple mini interview, each station marked by a separate interviewer. Manchester is considering replacing one station with a group task for the 2026/7 cycle and will confirm the format in the invitation.
- Timing: eight minutes per station with a two-minute gap between stations. You start at a random station.
- Mode: you choose online via Zoom or on campus. Spaces in each format are limited and allocated first come, first served, and both are assessed in the same way.
- Preparation material: no information is given in advance, and there is no reading or writing component at any station.
- Interviewers: university and clinical staff, with patient and lay representatives, current medical students and simulated patients also involved.
- When: usually December to early March, with details sent to the email address on your UCAS application.
The interview is not an academic test. Manchester says it looks for the values and behaviours expected of a medical student, and lists areas that could be tested: communication, your reasons for choosing medicine, what you gained from caring experience, an informed layperson's view of current issues, and your ability to summarise an ethical problem. It describes its style as conversational and says spontaneous but well-thought-out answers are more likely to impress than rehearsed ones.
Manchester says it does not endorse commercial interview preparation and points applicants to the Medical Schools Council resources. For dates across other schools, see the interview dates table.

A solo GEM year of case-based learning, then year three of the five-year course
Year one is a bespoke Graduate Entry Medicine year taken by the graduate cohort alone, mostly in the Stopford Building on the Oxford Road campus. Teaching centres on themed case discussions using a problem-based learning approach, with anatomy taught through prosection, simulated consultation skills and early clinical experience.
- Year two: integrated with year three of the five-year course; five clinical placements, starting with a four-week Introduction to Clinical Learning, and the year closes with a four-week student-selected clinical placement.
- Year three: aligned with year four of the five-year course, across 14 specialties, ending with an elective that is often overseas.
- Final year: preparation for practice, the Medical Licensing Assessment and the Prescribing Safety Assessment, with a four-week student assistantship.
From year two, placements are organised around four Clinical Education Campuses: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust at Oxford Road and at Wythenshawe, the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (formerly Salford Royal), and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Fees, international places and reapplying to Manchester
- Manchester has not yet set fees for 2027 entry. For reference, the 2026/27 home fee is £9,790 (subject to Parliamentary approval). International students pay £36,200 for year one, and the clinical years two to four are charged at the rate for the year you enter year two: £60,900 for students entering them in 2026.
- From year two, the NHS contributes to tuition fees and a means-tested amount towards living costs for eligible students ordinarily resident in England.
- International applicants are welcome. The admissions FAQs say a small number of additional places, including on the Graduate Entry Programme, are available under an exemption for students sponsored by an overseas government agency or fully self-funding.
- A-levels of BBB at the first sitting are required if you are still studying for your degree; they are waived once you hold a 2:1. A101 is not eligible for contextual offers.
- Work experience is expected before interview, with no set number of hours. Shadowing is not essential, and Manchester may ask for confirmation of your work experience.
- Manchester accepts at most two consecutive applications, and reapplicants must retake the UCAT and show a material difference in their application.
- Deferred entry is welcome, preferably flagged at the point of application. Transfers are not considered.
