The short answer

Liverpool graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry

To apply for Liverpool graduate entry medicine (MBChB A101, four years, 2027 entry) you need home fee status, a 2:1 in any subject (or a 2:2 plus a master's or PhD), and a GAMSAT score of at least 50 overall with no section below 50.

Liverpool expects up to 30 places and approximately 120 interviews for 2027 entry. Interviews go to the highest scorers on a published points system, and applicants must also submit Liverpool's online Form B, with evidence, by 22 October 2026.

Liverpool's selection process is weighted towards applicants with significant paid experience in a healthcare setting and registered healthcare professionals with post-qualification experience. The course starts on 2 August 2027 and deferred entry is not considered.

How the shortlist is made

Liverpool's points system: what earns you an A101 interview

Liverpool publishes the scoring it uses to rank A101 applicants for interview in Appendix 1 of its departmental supplement. The highest-scoring applicants who meet the minimum criteria are invited. Your UCAS personal statement and reference are not routinely used for this decision.

Voluntary work (e.g. hospital, care home, school, nursery, customer-facing); minimum hours rise from 50 to more than 200 across the bands6.2512.52537.550

Two things stand out. The overall GAMSAT score alone can earn up to 500 points, and Liverpool explains that Section 3 reflects current science knowledge, which it says matters particularly for applicants with a non-science degree or who have been out of education for some time. And the course page states that selection is weighted towards applicants with significant paid healthcare experience (two years) and registered healthcare staff with post-qualification experience.

The applicant online form

Form B: Liverpool's second application, due 22 October 2026

No Form B, no experience points

Graduate applicants to A101 must also complete Liverpool's applicant online Form B, available on the School of Medicine admissions information page from September 2026 and due no later than 22 October 2026. The evidence you upload there is what the experience and widening participation points are scored from.

  • Upload evidence for the qualifications on your UCAS form, including degree transcripts, plus any professional registration and evidence of work or voluntary experience.
  • Voluntary work needs a letter of confirmation from a supervisor or another person with appropriate authority. Letters that cannot be uploaded can be emailed to the admissions team.
  • Declare extenuating circumstances and examination resits on the form, with evidence. Liverpool does not accept unsolicited correspondence about circumstances that could have gone on the form.
  • The supporting statement within Form B is limited to 1,000 characters.

Because the UCAS personal statement is not routinely scored for interview selection, Form B is where your experience earns points. Liverpool says the experiences described in your personal statement are likely to be explored at interview.

GAMSAT preparation

Sitting GAMSAT for Liverpool?

1-1 GAMSAT tutoring across all three sections, planned around your degree background and your test date.

Selection

The four stages from GAMSAT to offer

  1. 1

    Stage 1: GAMSAT threshold

Only applicants with an overall GAMSAT score of at least 50 and no section below 50 move on. Liverpool calls this a first and non-negotiable requirement that contextual information does not change. Valid sittings are March and September 2025, and March and September 2026.

  2. 2

    Stage 2: points

Applications are scored on GAMSAT, degree, healthcare and voluntary experience, and evidence of a widening participation background, using the published tables.

  3. 3

    Stage 3: interview

The most competitive applicants are invited. The supplement's format sentence, still worded for 2025 entry, says interviews are likely to be face-to-face multiple mini interviews, and it expects all A101 interviews to take place on campus. No offer is made without an interview.

  4. 4

    Stage 4: offer

Offers usually follow a competitive interview score: interview scores are ranked and the top-scoring applicants receive offers. Contextual information may be used in borderline decisions.

Liverpool has not published a station count or interview dates for this cycle. Its supplement lists late January to mid-February as the estimated window for inviting the most competitive applicants, gives these dates without a year, and says some of them are estimates. The attributes it values, and which the interview assesses, are healthcare career awareness and insight, caring for the community, clear verbal and written communication, and the values that underpin good healthcare practice. Interviewees sign a confidentiality clause.

The course

An August start, seven system blocks, then year three of the five-year course

A101 was reopened for entry in 2024. Year one is accelerated: it covers what is typically taught in the first two years of Liverpool's five-year A100 programme, so it runs from early August to the end of July. The 2027 cohort starts on 2 August 2027.

  • Year one: taught mostly separately from A100 on the University of Liverpool campus, in seven system blocks with foundation material alongside. Teaching mixes recorded content, seminars, case-based learning, anatomy in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre and clinical skills. First clinical placements come at the end of the year.
  • Assessment in year one: two assessment periods, with written applied knowledge tests, a portfolio and a research and scholarship assignment.
  • Year two onwards: you join the main A100 programme in its year three, with block clinical placements across hospital and community settings in the North West.
  • Wednesday afternoons: not guaranteed free in year one; likely once you join the clinical rotations.

The early start has practical consequences. A pending degree, master's or PhD must be classified before the August start, and PhD students must have submitted their thesis by 1 January of the year of entry.

Who can apply

Home status, no deferral, and applying to A100 as well

  • A101 considers home students only, and there are no places for international applicants. Liverpool notes that in most cases EU students are considered international, and that applicants in the UK on a visa of any type are assessed as international.
  • Deferred entry is not considered. An offer holder who cannot start must reapply in a later cycle.
  • Graduates can use two UCAS choices to apply to both A101 and the five-year A100 course. Graduates cannot apply to the Foundation to Medicine Professions route (789S).
  • You must be 18 by 1 October in the year of entry.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have lived in the UK for less than five years, need at least grade B in GCSE English Language or equivalent and, if made an offer, IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in every component.
  • Meeting the GAMSAT minimum counts as meeting Liverpool's English Language and Maths requirement for A101, so there is no separate GCSE grade to hit.
  • Unsuccessful applicants may make at least one further consecutive application. Anyone planning a third should contact the admissions team first.
  • From 2027 entry, year one students pay for a UK DBS check and the DBS update service (about £66 and £16 a year as of 2025/26).

The home fee is £10,050 per year for 2027/28. Liverpool's supplement points graduates to the NHS Bursary and Student Loans Company guidance on funding an accelerated course. If you are new to the test, our GAMSAT guide explains the three sections and how the overall score is built.

FAQs

Liverpool graduate entry medicine: common questions

What GAMSAT score do I need for Liverpool graduate entry medicine?

You need at least 50 overall and at least 50 in each GAMSAT section to pass Liverpool's first stage. Above that, every point over 50 in the overall score earns 50 points in the ranking, up to an overall score of 60.

Does Liverpool A101 accept UCAT?

No. All graduate applicants to A101 must offer GAMSAT. Liverpool's five-year A100 course is a separate route that graduates can also apply to.

What is Form B for Liverpool medicine?

Form B is Liverpool's applicant online form for A101, due by 22 October 2026. It is where you upload evidence of your degree, healthcare work, voluntary work, widening participation background and extenuating circumstances, and the experience points in the shortlisting score come from it.

Can I apply to Liverpool graduate medicine with a 2:2?

Yes, if you also hold (or are completing) a postgraduate master's or PhD. Otherwise the minimum is a 2:1 in any subject, achieved or predicted.

Can international students apply to Liverpool's graduate entry course?

No. A101 considers home students only and has no places for international applicants. In most cases EU students are treated as international.

Does Liverpool look at the personal statement for A101?

Not for the interview decision. Personal statements and references are not routinely used to decide who is interviewed, but the experiences you describe are likely to be explored at interview.

When does the Liverpool graduate entry course start?

It starts on 2 August 2027 for the 2027 cohort. The first year runs from early August to the end of July because it covers what is typically taught in the first two years of the five-year A100 course, and deferred entry is not allowed.
