UK Medical School Interview Dates for 2027 Entry

Every UK medical school in one table, with the interview window each university publishes, the format it uses and a link to the page we read it from. Checked school by school against official university websites, never aggregated from other tutoring sites, and re-checked every autumn.

The short answer

When are medical school interviews for 2027 entry?

Medicine interviews for 2027 entry run from early December 2026 to March 2027, with a few schools continuing into April. December is the first wave, January and February are the busiest months, and invitations typically arrive two to three weeks before the interview itself.

Of the 52 UK medical schools, 34 have published a window for 2027 entry on their own website so far. The rest publish only a general pattern, or nothing yet, and will confirm dates as invitations go out. The table below says which is which, so you can tell a confirmed date from last year's pattern at a glance.

Key dates

The 2027 entry medicine interview timeline

  1. 15 October 2026

UCAS deadline for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, at 18:00 UK time. Miss it and most medical schools will not consider your application at all.

  2. Late October to November 2026

Schools screen on UCAT score and academic requirements, then start sending interview invitations. Invitations usually arrive by email and through the applicant portal, often with very little notice.

  3. December 2026

The first big wave of interviews. Cambridge, Aberdeen, Sunderland and several others interview before the Christmas break, so December applicants are preparing while everyone else is still waiting.

  4. January to March 2027

The main interview season. Most schools run their multiple mini interviews or panels in this window, and many interview in several rounds as applications are processed.

  5. By 31 March 2027

Most medical schools aim to have made their decisions. Offers and rejections appear on UCAS Hub, though some schools hold places until later rounds finish.

  6. Mid-May 2027

UCAS deadline for replying to your offers, once every school has decided.

Every window above was read from the university's own website on the date shown in the last column. Universities change their windows, add rounds and occasionally leave an old page up, so treat this table as a planning tool and confirm on the official page before you book travel or time off.

Preparing in the time you have

You know the date. What now?

The right preparation depends less on which schools you hold than on how many weeks stand between you and the first one.

If one of yours is in the first wave

26 schools open their window in November or December, so a single early offer can pull your whole timeline forward by two months. With weeks rather than months, a mock in the right format tells you fastest what to fix.

If you have a month or more

Enough time to build technique rather than patch it: motivation, ethics frameworks, role play and the stations your specific schools use, worked through with a tutor who has sat on the other side of a medical school interview panel.

If nothing is confirmed yet

Most schools give two to three weeks of notice, so waiting for the invitation is the one plan that reliably fails. A one-day course covers how interviews are scored, hot topics and role play before your first date lands.

Not sure which you need? A free consultation takes ten minutes, or see the Ultimate Package if you want the whole application covered rather than the interview alone.

What to do next

How to use these dates

Find your four choices in the table and note the earliest window. That date, not the January average, is the one your preparation has to be ready for. An applicant holding one December school and three February schools has roughly eight weeks less time than the calendar suggests.

  • Work backwards from your earliest school: Give yourself at least six weeks of preparation before the first window opens, because the invitation itself may only give you two.
  • Learn the format, not just the date: A seven station MMI circuit and a 40 minute panel reward different preparation. The format column tells you which each school uses.
  • Keep December to March as clear as you can: Most schools offer a choice of slots on a first come first served basis, so booking quickly matters more than negotiating later.
  • Check the official page before you commit: We link the exact page for every school. Universities do move their windows, and the source link is there so you can confirm in one click.

Once you know your dates, the preparation itself is covered in our MMI interview preparation guide, the practice question bank and the NHS hot topics briefing. If you would rather rehearse with a doctor who interviews for a medical school, that is interview coaching.

Applying to dentistry as well? The same table for dental schools is at UK dental school interview dates.

How we check

Where these dates come from

Every row was read off the university's own website: the course page, the selection or admissions page, or an official applicant guidance document on the same domain. We do not take interview dates from forums, aggregator sites or other tutoring companies, because that is how a wrong date spreads for a whole cycle.

Where a school has not published dates for 2027 entry, we say so instead of advancing last year's dates by twelve months. Where a school publishes a standing window rather than named dates, the badge says standing window. The date in the last column is the day we last read that page, and the whole table is re-checked every autumn as the new cycle opens.

Medical school interview dates: common questions

When are medical school interviews for 2027 entry?

Medicine interviews for 2027 entry run from early December 2026 to March 2027, with a small number continuing into April. December is the first wave, January and February are the busiest months, and the last invitations usually go out in February for interviews in March. The exact window varies by school, which is what the table on this page sets out, and a school that has not published its dates yet will normally follow the same window it used last cycle.

How much notice will I get before a medicine interview?

Less than most applicants expect. Two to three weeks is common, and some schools give around ten days. Invitations arrive by email and through the university's applicant portal, so check both, including your spam folder, from late October onwards. Because the notice is short, the realistic approach is to start interview preparation before you are invited rather than after, and to keep the December to March period as free as you can.

Can I change my medical school interview date?

Sometimes, but do not count on it. Most schools offer a choice of slots when you book, on a first come first served basis, so booking quickly matters more than asking to move later. If you have a genuine clash, such as an exam, illness or religious observance, contact the admissions team as soon as you are invited: schools will usually try to accommodate a documented clash, but many run a fixed number of interview days and cannot add more.

Which medical schools interview in December?

December is the earliest wave. Cambridge interviews in the first half of December, and several other schools begin before the Christmas break. The table above lists the published December windows with a link to each university's own page, so you can see which of your four choices could call you first. If you have applied to any December school, plan your preparation around that date rather than around the January peak.

Do all UK medical schools interview applicants?

Effectively yes, for school leaver entry. Every UK medical school that leads to GMC registration interviews before making an offer, because the General Medical Council expects schools to assess values and communication as well as academic ability. What varies is the format: most use multiple mini interviews (MMIs) with a circuit of short stations, while Oxford, Cambridge and a handful of others use panel interviews. Some schools interview online and others in person, and a few offer both.

What happens if a university has not published its interview dates yet?

It is normal, and it is not a bad sign. Many schools publish only a broad window until invitations go out, and some never publish named dates at all. Where a university has published nothing for this cycle, the table says so rather than repeating last year's dates, and the detail column explains what the school does publish. Treat last cycle's window as a planning guide, not a promise, and check the university's own page before you book anything around it.

How early should I start preparing for medicine interviews?

Start in September or October, before invitations go out. The gap between an invitation and the interview itself is often two to three weeks, which is not long enough to build interview technique from scratch on top of school work and predicted grades. Applicants who do well usually have their motivation, work experience reflection and ethics frameworks ready in the autumn, then spend the short notice period practising under timed conditions rather than learning the basics.
