“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
Graduate Entry Medicine at Nottingham: 2027 Entry
For 2027 entry Nottingham's four-year BMBS changes its admissions test from GAMSAT to UCAT, scores the UCAT out of 50 with verbal reasoning counted twice, and interviews on two December dates. The degree can be in any subject.

Nottingham graduate entry medicine, 2027 entry
To apply for Nottingham graduate entry medicine (BMBS A101, four years, 2027 entry) you need a 2:1 honours degree in any subject (or a 2:2 plus a taught master's at Merit or above), GCSE Maths at grade 6 (B), and a UCAT taken in 2026; GAMSAT is no longer accepted.
Nottingham converts your UCAT subtest scores into points out of 50, doubles verbal reasoning, and does not consider SJT Band 4. It uses no fixed threshold and does not share previous years' thresholds.
Nottingham A101 interviews are scheduled for 9 and 11 December 2026: in person for home applicants and online via Microsoft Teams for international applicants. The UCAS personal statement and reference are reviewed only after interview, before offers are made.
Nottingham switches from GAMSAT to UCAT for 2027 entry
Nottingham's applying page now carries two sets of guidance: GAMSAT for 2026 entry and UCAT for 2027 entry. If you are applying by 15 October 2026 for a 2027 start, the UCAT is the test that counts, and it must be taken in the year you apply.
| 2026 entry | 2027 entry | |
|---|---|---|
| Test | GAMSAT, taken before the UCAS application | UCAT, taken in the year of application |
| Which result counts | Highest set of GAMSAT scores from the last two years | Only a UCAT taken in 2026 |
| Can I use a GAMSAT score? | Yes | No |
A GAMSAT result cannot be used for 2027 entry
Applicants who sat GAMSAT in 2025 or 2026 expecting to use it at Nottingham need a 2026 UCAT result for 2027 entry. If you hold a GAMSAT score, other courses still accept it: see the UK graduate entry medicine courses hub.
The course itself is also changing. Nottingham states that from 2027 entry the A101 curriculum will change to align with its five-year A100 course, and the course page describes a newly redesigned programme co-created with students, staff and doctors. From September 2026 the course is taught at Nottingham-based campuses.

How Nottingham scores your UCAT out of 50, with verbal reasoning doubled
If you meet the academic entry requirements, Nottingham converts each UCAT component into points. Verbal reasoning is doubled, which Nottingham attributes to published research evidence, so it is worth up to 20 of the 50 points.
| Subtest score | Points |
|---|---|
| 801 to 900 | 10 |
| 701 to 800 | 8 |
| 601 to 700 | 6 |
| 501 to 600 | 4 |
| 401 to 500 | 2 |
| Under 400 | 0 |
| SJT band | Points |
|---|---|
| Band 1 | 10 |
| Band 2 | 6 |
| Band 3 | 2 |
| Band 4 | 0, and not considered for interview |
| Section | Score | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Verbal reasoning | 680 | 6 x 2 = 12 |
| Quantitative reasoning | 500 | 2 |
| Decision making | 580 | 4 |
| Situational Judgement Test | Band 2 | 6 |
Because the points come in 100-mark bands, a subtest score of 700 earns 6 points and 710 earns 8. There is no fixed threshold for interview: it changes each year with applicant numbers and performance, and Nottingham does not publish past thresholds. With verbal reasoning counted twice, it may be worth giving it extra practice time; UCAT tutoring covers all four subtests.

Your personal statement is read after the interview, before offers
- 1
Apply through UCAS by 15 October 2026
Graduates choose either A100 or A101 for the same year of entry, and cannot apply for both. If Nottingham cannot confirm your fee status from UCAS, a Fee Status Questionnaire must be returned by 30 November or the application is withdrawn.
- 2
Academic check and UCAT points
Interview selection is typically based on meeting the minimum academic criteria and your UCAT points score.
- 3
Interview
Every applicant must be interviewed in the year they apply before an offer can be made.
- 4
Personal statement and reference review
The UCAS personal statement and reference are not used to select for interview. They are reviewed after interview, before offers are made.
That order matters when you write your personal statement: it is read by people deciding on offers, after they have met you. Nottingham usually expects regular work experience, which can include paid work with the general public, and says it may ask at interview about your knowledge of the profession and the scope of a doctor's role.

Interviews on 9 and 11 December 2026: in person for home, online for international
| Applicant | Mode | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| Home fee status | In person | 9 and 11 December 2026 |
| International fee status | Online via Microsoft Teams | 9 and 11 December 2026 |
Nottingham says the dates are correct at publication but subject to change. It has not published the 2027 entry interview format, such as the number or type of stations, so it helps to prepare for a range of question styles. The interview dates table shows how Nottingham's dates fit with others you may have applied to.
Nottingham interviews any applicant a maximum of three times across its four-, five- and six-year medicine courses. After two interviews you may be able to apply once more, but only after waiting at least three years from the last interview.

Joining year two of the five-year course, with a day a week in primary care
Graduate entry students join year two of Nottingham's five-year medicine programme, a spiral curriculum in which topics return at increasing complexity. A consolidated module, Art of Medicine for Graduate Students, covers the core learning that five-year students complete in their first year, and prepares you for the Science of Medicine module.
- Year one: Science of Medicine, with one day a week of primary care clinical teaching from the first term and around 14 to 20 contact hours a week. Most of the year is on University of Nottingham campuses and with primary care providers across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
- Year two: Practice of Medicine, with three 10-week clinical blocks in medicine, surgery and hospital specialties, followed by a research skills and critical appraisal block.
- Year three: further hospital specialties and primary care in four placement blocks; attachments are likely to include child health, women's health, mental health, primary care and long-term conditions.
- Year four: medicine, surgery and perioperative medicine, and primary care in three six-week blocks, a project module, an assistantship and a possible elective in the UK or abroad.
From year two the academic year begins in mid-August, and clinical placements average 36 hours a week, which may include shifts and weekends. Enrichment and Student Selected Modules let you study topics outside the core curriculum. Placements can take place at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham City Hospital, Highbury Hospital, Royal Derby Hospital, King's Mill Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital, with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire healthcare trusts, and at GP practices across the region.

Nottingham graduate entry medicine: common questions
Does Nottingham graduate entry medicine still accept GAMSAT?
No, not for 2027 entry. Nottingham requires the UCAT, taken in the year of application. GAMSAT applied to 2026 entry only.
What UCAT score do I need for Nottingham GEM?
There is no fixed score. Nottingham converts your subtests into points out of 50, doubling verbal reasoning, and the interview threshold changes each year. It does not share previous thresholds, and SJT Band 4 is not considered.
When are Nottingham graduate entry medicine interviews?
Interviews for 2027 entry are scheduled for 9 and 11 December 2026. Home applicants attend in person and international applicants are interviewed online via Microsoft Teams. Nottingham says the dates may change.
Can I apply to Nottingham GEM with a non-science degree?
Yes. Nottingham accepts a 2:1 in any subject. If your degree is not a bioscience and has insufficient biology content, you also need A-level Biology at grade B.
Can I apply to Nottingham with a 2:2?
Yes, if you also have, or are due to complete, a taught master's degree at Merit or above.
Can I apply to both A100 and A101 at Nottingham?
No. Graduates choose either the five-year A100 or the four-year A101 course for the same year of entry.
Does Nottingham read the personal statement for graduate entry?
Yes, but after interview. The UCAS personal statement and reference are not used to select for interview; they are reviewed after interview, before offers are made.
