Free: the UCAT 2027 Plan (PDF)
Month by month from January to your test, for 2028 entry: key dates, section strategies and a mock review log.
The UCAT is run by the UCAT Consortium of UK universities, but a growing list of medical and dental schools in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean now use the same test. If you are an international student, one UCAT sitting can count towards a UK application and a home-country application in the same cycle, provided you sit the right version and send the result to the right places.
This page lists every university outside the UK that we could confirm on its own admissions pages, says whether the UCAT is required, optional or one option among several, and gives the published threshold where there is one. Last checked: 1 October 2026. Entry rules change every cycle, so treat the official link in each row as the final word.
Outside the UK, the UK UCAT is required by NUS and NTU in Singapore, Thammasat University in Thailand, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr in Iraq and Queen Mary University of London in Malta, and becomes required at HKU in Hong Kong for 2028 entry. Several others accept it as one option: CUHK, the University of Nicosia Graduate Entry MD, NKUA Athens, the Medical University of Warsaw, AUC in the Caribbean and Pakistan's foreign and overseas seats. Australia and New Zealand use the separate UCAT ANZ.

Seven of these are formal UCAT partner universities listed on ucat.ac.uk: NUS, NTU, Thammasat, UKH, the University of Nicosia, NKUA and AUC. Queen Mary's Malta programme is run by a UK Consortium member. HKU, CUHK, Warsaw and the PMDC colleges are not on the partner list but name the UCAT in their own admissions rules, so check how your result reaches them.
If you are applying from abroad, our 1-1 UCAT tutoring is online and scheduled around your time zone, so a student in Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok can work with a UK tutor after school. One score is going to several universities in different countries, which makes each extra decile worth more.
Yes. Both Singapore medical schools use the UK UCAT. NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine shortlists every applicant for its Multiple Mini-Interviews on academic results and UCAT results, and only accepts a UCAT sat in the 12 months before you apply. NUS's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine requires the UCAT from applicants with international qualifications or IB forecast results.
NTU publishes no fixed cut-off. Its guide figure is that students admitted in AY2025-26 scored between 2690 (10th percentile) and 3170 (90th percentile), but those are UCAT 2024 scores on the old 3600 scale with Abstract Reasoning, so they cannot be compared directly with a 2026 score out of 2700. When you register, select Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU, Singapore) so your result is sent there.
For the NUS and NTU requirements in detail, see UCAT for Singapore: NUS and NTU requirements and cut-offs. If you are applying to the UK from Singapore too, read applying to medicine in the UK from Singapore.
Yes, for non-JUPAS applicants, and the University of Hong Kong is about to make it compulsory. HKU's MBBS treats the UCAT as optional for 2027-28 entry and makes it required for 2028-29 entry. CUHK's MBChB does not require any entrance test, but says it is increasingly common for A level and IAL applicants to strengthen their profile with a UCAT or MCAT result.
HKU change for 2028 entry: the UCAT is optional for non-JUPAS MBBS applicants entering in 2027-28, and applicants without it "will not be disadvantaged". For 2028-29 entry it is required. This affects Hong Kong and international students on non-JUPAS routes (for example A levels or the IB) who will sit UCAT 2027 in summer 2027. HKU has not published a minimum score.
For 2027-28 entry, HKU says non-JUPAS candidates may still submit UCAT results from any year as a supporting document. JUPAS applicants, who apply on the HKDSE through the local system, are not covered by this non-JUPAS rule.
UCAT test centres, HKDSE offers and the UK route are covered in applying to medicine in the UK from Hong Kong.
Yes. Thammasat University in Thailand is a UCAT partner university for three courses: the Doctor of Medicine (International Program), the Doctor of Medicine (English Program) and the Doctor of Dental Surgery (Bilingual Program). UCAT names Thammasat among the partner universities whose 2027-entry applicants should sit UCAT 2026.
Aiming for a top-decile UCAT score?
For the International Program at the Chulabhorn International College of Medicine (CICM), the 2026 admission guidelines list the UCAT score as the first selection criterion, followed by a portfolio and an MMI in English. That round accepted UCAT 2025 scores only, asked for IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, set an age limit of under 28, and offered 32 places. Check CICM's guidelines for the 2027 round before you rely on the dates.
Thai students applying to both countries can read studying medicine in the UK from Thailand. Chulalongkorn's CU-MEDi is a graduate entry programme that uses the MCAT.
Four European options name the UCAT: Queen Mary University of London's MBBS in Malta (required), the University of Nicosia Graduate Entry MD in Cyprus (one of three accepted tests), NKUA in Athens (one of several qualifying credentials) and the Medical University of Warsaw (can replace its own competency test for some international candidates).
Hungary, the Czech Republic and Italy run their own exams or the IMAT (see the table below). For the wider picture, read studying medicine in Europe and studying medicine in the UK from Europe.
Yes, for foreign-student seats and seats reserved for overseas Pakistanis. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council's Admissions Regulations 2025 say candidates for those seats do not need the MDCAT if they have SAT-II with at least 550 in each subject, a foreign MCAT, or the UCAT "with 50% marks". The regulation does not say how 50% maps onto the 900 to 2700 scale, so check each college's own admission notice.
Our guide to studying medicine in the UK from Pakistan covers the UCAT for overseas and foreign seats alongside the UK route.
Two more partner universities sit outside these regions. The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) in Erbil, Iraq, requires the UCAT for its MBBS and runs the test at its own campus; its UCAT page quotes a minimum of 1400 and an overseas fee of £115, but is undated and does not say which scale the 1400 refers to, so confirm the current threshold with UKH.
The American University of the Caribbean (AUC) on Sint Maarten requires the MCAT from US applicants but lets non-US applicants submit an equivalent test, and says students from the UK may substitute the UCAT. It is not compulsory for non-US applicants, and AUC does not consider UCAT scores more than five years old.

No. Universities in Australia and New Zealand use the UCAT ANZ, a separate sitting of the same test run by the UCAT ANZ Consortium. Seventeen universities are members: fifteen in Australia and the University of Auckland and University of Otago in New Zealand. At Griffith (Medical Science) and the University of the Sunshine Coast (Medical Science) the test is optional.
It works in the other direction. A UCAT ANZ 2026 result is valid for UK medical and dental schools for 2027 entry, and for UCAT partner universities, if you complete the UCAT ANZ Results Collection form on ucat.ac.uk by 22 October 2026. NTU says it only expects a UCAT ANZ result from applicants who are also applying to Australia or New Zealand.
Read our UCAT ANZ guide for the Australian and New Zealand universities and dates, and UCAT ANZ vs UCAT UK for how an ANZ score is used in the UK, including the SJT band conversion.
Many well-known international medical schools do not use the UCAT at all. Ireland uses the HPAT, the USA and Canada use the MCAT, India uses NEET, and most European English-taught programmes run their own exam or the IMAT. A UCAT score does not replace these tests.
Where | Institution or system | Test used | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
Ireland | Undergraduate medicine at Galway, RCSI, Trinity, UCC, UCD and Limerick | HPAT-Ireland | |
Malaysia | Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed), MBBS | No UCAT: "currently not required" for 2027 entry | |
Thailand | Chulalongkorn University CU-MEDi (4-year graduate entry MD) | MCAT | |
UAE | Mohammed Bin Rashid University (MBRU), College of Medicine | MBRU Admissions Test | |
Qatar | Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Six-Year Medical Program | SAT or ACT | |
USA and Canada | MD programmes | MCAT | |
India | All undergraduate medical institutions (MBBS, BDS) | NEET (UG) | |
Hungary | Semmelweis University, medicine in English | Own entrance exam (biology, chemistry, English) | |
Czech Republic | Charles University, First Faculty of Medicine, General Medicine in English | Own entrance exam (biology, chemistry, general science), compulsory | |
Italy | English-taught medicine at state universities | IMAT |
Ireland's routes for non-EU applicants are covered in studying medicine in Ireland.
In UCAT 2026, sat between July and September 2026 for 2027 entry, the mean total was 1918 out of 2700 across 42,359 tests. The official deciles below are the fairest way to read any threshold a university quotes, because they show where a score sits in the whole cohort.
UCAT 2026 decile | Total score (900 to 2700) |
|---|---|
1st decile (10th percentile) | 1590 |
2nd decile (20th percentile) | 1700 |
3rd decile (30th percentile) | 1780 |
4th decile (40th percentile) | 1850 |
5th decile (50th percentile) | 1920 |
6th decile (60th percentile) | 1980 |
7th decile (70th percentile) | 2050 |
8th decile (80th percentile) | 2140 |
9th decile (90th percentile) | 2250 |
So Queen Mary Malta's "third decile or above" means a total around 1780 or higher on the 2026 tables, a top-10% score starts at 2250, and the University of Nicosia's 1875 sits a little below the 1920 median.
Watch the scale. Until 2024 the UCAT included Abstract Reasoning and was scored out of 3600. From 2025 it is three cognitive subtests scored out of 2700. NTU's published 2690 to 3170 range comes from UCAT 2024 on the old 3600 scale, so a 2026 score of 2690 out of 2700 is not the same thing. Compare percentiles, not raw numbers, and treat any conversion as approximate. The 2026 first decile was 1590.
For the full percentile table, see what is a good UCAT score: averages and deciles, and for how UK schools use the score, UCAT cut-off scores by university. The SJT band rules that Malta and Nicosia use are explained in UCAT SJT bands 1 to 4.
Yes. One UCAT (UK) sitting can be used for UK medical schools and for partner universities such as NUS, NTU and Thammasat in the same cycle, and for the other universities in the table that accept it. UCAT says applicants to NTU, NUS or Thammasat for 2027 entry should sit UCAT 2026.
The UCAT is sat at Pearson VUE test centres in many countries, so you do not need to travel to the UK. It costs £115 for a test taken outside the UK and £70 in the UK, and the UCAT bursary is for UK candidates only. Online proctored testing (OnVUE) is only for candidates who cannot reach a test centre, for reasons such as distance or civil unrest.

UCAT has not yet published the dates for UCAT 2027, which is the test for 2028 entry and for HKU's new requirement. Registration for UCAT 2026 opened on 20 May 2026, so watch ucat.ac.uk from spring 2027. Our UCAT registration guide walks through the account and booking steps. New to the test? Start with what is the UCAT.
From diagnostic to test day: a structured plan with 1-1 expert support at every stage.
The UCAT tests speed and reasoning, not school knowledge, so students from HKDSE, Thai, Singaporean or IB systems often find the format the hardest part. Starting three or more months before your test date, and sitting in July or August, gives you the score before you choose your universities in each country.

NUS and NTU in Singapore, Thammasat University in Thailand, the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr in Iraq and Queen Mary University of London in Malta require the UCAT. HKU makes it required for 2028 entry. CUHK, the University of Nicosia Graduate Entry MD, NKUA Athens, the Medical University of Warsaw, AUC and Pakistan's foreign and overseas seats accept it as one option.
Outside the UK, the UK UCAT is used in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Iraq, Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean and Pakistan. Australia and New Zealand use the UCAT ANZ, a separate sitting of the same test. Ireland, the USA, Canada, India and most European English-taught programmes use other tests.
For 2027-28 entry the UCAT is optional for non-JUPAS MBBS applicants, and HKU says applicants without it will not be disadvantaged. For 2028-29 entry it is required. If you are on A levels, the IB or another non-JUPAS route and plan to start in 2028, sit UCAT 2027 in summer 2027. HKU has not published a minimum score.
Yes. NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine uses UCAT results with academic results to shortlist for interview and only accepts a UCAT sat in the 12 months before you apply. NUS requires the UCAT from applicants with international qualifications or IB forecast results. Neither publishes a fixed cut-off for 2027 entry.
No. Australian and New Zealand universities accept the UCAT ANZ only. If any of your choices are there, sit the UCAT ANZ, because a UCAT ANZ 2026 result can also be sent to UK and partner universities through the Results Collection form on ucat.ac.uk, which closes on 22 October 2026.
No. UCAT does not permit candidates to sit both the UCAT and the UCAT ANZ in the same year under any circumstances. It is treated as candidate misconduct and all results may be withdrawn. You may also sit the UCAT only once in each test cycle, so choose the version that covers every country on your list.
In a few places. Queen Mary University of London requires it for its MBBS in Malta, the University of Nicosia accepts it for its Graduate Entry MD in Cyprus, NKUA Athens lists it as one qualifying credential, and the Medical University of Warsaw may let some international candidates use it in place of its own test. Hungary, the Czech Republic and Italy use their own exams or the IMAT.
The UCAT costs £115 when taken outside the UK and £70 in the UK, paid when you book. The UCAT bursary is only for UK candidates. You sit the test at a Pearson VUE centre in your own country, and online proctoring is only offered when travel to a centre is not possible.

Ultimate Package students from our 2025/26 cycle, with their UCAT scores and offers, who trained with us for the UCAT, personal statements and interviews.
“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
“The interview prep was the part that actually moved the needle. Proper mock MMIs, not just lists of questions, and feedback that was honest about what I was getting wrong. I ended up with four offers and firmed UCL.”
“The Ultimate Package kept me organised from UCAT through to interviews. They knew what dental schools actually ask and tightened up my personal statement. Four offers in the end, and I'm going to Birmingham.”
“Vet applications come down to the written SAQs as much as the interview. Dr Rebecca went through my SAQs line by line, sharpened my answers and prepped me for the panels. I came away with four offers and chose the RVC.”
