Free: the UCAT 2027 Plan (PDF)
Month by month from January to your test, for 2028 entry: key dates, section strategies and a mock review log.
Two of Singapore's three medical schools use the UCAT, but in very different ways. NTU asks every applicant for a score and publishes the range its admitted students achieved. NUS asks only some applicants for it and publishes no range. This guide covers who needs the test for each, what NTU's published figures mean on the new 2700 scale, the dates for 2027 entry, and how one UCAT sitting can also serve a UK application.
Last checked: 1 October 2026, against the NUS, NTU and UCAT Consortium websites.
The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) requires the UCAT from all MBBS applicants. The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) requires it only from applicants with international qualifications or predicted IB results. Duke-NUS Medical School is graduate entry and takes the MCAT or GAMSAT instead.
School | Degree | UCAT required? | Interview stage |
|---|---|---|---|
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU | MBBS, five years | Yes, every applicant, whatever their qualification | Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), in person at the Novena campus |
Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS | MBBS | Only with international qualifications or predicted IB results. Not for Singapore-Cambridge A-Level, polytechnic, NUS High or actual IB results | Focused Skills Assessment (FSA), in person, in April |
Duke-NUS Medical School | MD, graduate entry | No. A bachelor's degree plus the MCAT or GAMSAT | Separate graduate process |
Both NUS and NTU are listed by the UCAT Consortium as partner universities for their MBBS programmes, alongside a handful of other universities outside the UK.
For every non-UK university that uses the test, see our list of universities that accept the UCAT outside the UK.
Yes. NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine requires a UCAT result from every MBBS applicant, including Singapore-Cambridge A-Level students. Your UCAT total is one of five things NTU assesses, alongside your academic results, a personal statement of up to 300 words, two referee reports and, if you are shortlisted, the MMI.
NTU does not set a fixed UCAT cut-off. What it publishes is the spread of scores among the students it admitted: for AY2025-26, the 10th percentile was 2690 and the 90th percentile was 3170. In other words, eight in ten NTU admits scored between 2690 and 3170, one in ten scored below 2690, and one in ten scored above 3170. NTU adds that the figures change each year with the strength of the applicant pool.
Those figures are on the old UCAT scale. Students admitted for AY2025-26 sat the UCAT 2024, which had four scored subtests, including Abstract Reasoning, and a total out of 3600. Abstract Reasoning was removed from 2025 and totals now run from 900 to 2700. A UCAT 2026 score of 2300 is a very strong result: never compare it directly with 2690 or 3170.
As of 1 October 2026, NTU has not published an admitted-student range for AY2026-27, which would be the first cohort assessed on the 2700 scale. We will update this page when it does.
Aiming for a top-decile UCAT score?
On the 2026 scale, NTU's published range works out at roughly 2070 to 2440. The two scales cannot be converted point for point, so the fair comparison is by percentile: where each score sat among everyone who took the test that year, then the 2026 score at the same percentile.
NTU AY2025-26 figure | Score (UCAT 2024, out of 3600) | Percentile among UCAT 2024 candidates | UCAT 2026 scores at that percentile | Approximate 2026 equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
10th percentile of admits | 2690 | About the 72nd (official 2024 deciles: 2680 was the 70th, 2780 the 80th) | 2061 to 2070 | About 2070 |
90th percentile of admits | 3170 | About the 98th (above the official 90th percentile of 2920; our estimate) | 2411 to 2470 | About 2440 |
The 2024 percentiles come from UCAT's published 2024 deciles and the 2024 data behind our score converter. The 2026 ranges are UCAT's own percentile look-up for the 2026 test. Treat the right-hand column as approximate: it assumes NTU's applicants stand in roughly the same place among all UCAT candidates from one year to the next.
To convert any other score between the two scales, use our UCAT score calculator, which runs the same percentile method.
On our reading of NTU's published range, a UCAT 2026 total of about 2070 puts you inside it, and 2250 or above makes the UCAT a strength in your NTU application. 2250 was the 9th decile in 2026: only one candidate in ten scored higher. The 2026 mean was 1918 across 42,359 tests.
UCAT 2026 total (out of 2700) | Official 2026 percentile | Where it stands for NTU |
|---|---|---|
1920 | 51st | Below the score nine in ten NTU admits reached. NUS (if your qualification needs no UCAT) or UK schools that weight the UCAT lightly may suit you better |
2050 | 70th | Just below where NTU's lowest-scoring tenth of admits sat. Possible with a strong profile, but the UCAT is working against you |
2070 | 72nd | About level with NTU's 10th-percentile admit: inside the range, at its lower edge |
2140 | 80th | Inside NTU's published range, in its lower part |
2250 | 90th | Top 10% of all UCAT 2026 candidates: our competitive target for NTU |
2350 | 95th | Upper part of NTU's range. The UCAT is a strength in your application |
2440 | 98th | About level with NTU's 90th-percentile admit |
2480 or above | 99th | Above nine in ten NTU admits on the UCAT alone |
These are guide figures. NTU ranks applicants on all five criteria, and a strong MMI and academic record can carry a UCAT at the lower end of the range. A score below about 2070 makes NTU harder, but it does not rule you out.

Only for some applicants. NUS requires the UCAT for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine if you apply with international qualifications or with predicted IB Diploma results. Singapore-Cambridge A-Level, local polytechnic and NUS High School applicants do not need it, and neither do IB students who apply with their actual results.
Your qualification | UCAT needed for NUS Medicine? | AY2027-28 NUS application window |
|---|---|---|
Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level | No | 18 February 2027 to 19 March 2027 |
IB Diploma, actual results | No | 16 December 2026 to 17 February 2027 |
IB Diploma, predicted results (for example, May 2027 candidates) | Yes | 16 December 2026 to 17 February 2027 |
International qualifications (other than IB) | Yes | 16 December 2026 to 17 February 2027 |
Polytechnic Diploma from Singapore | No | 16 December 2026 to 3 February 2027 |
NUS High School Diploma | No | 16 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 |
If you need the UCAT for NUS and are also applying to Australian or New Zealand universities, the UCAT Consortium's advice is to sit the UCAT ANZ. Otherwise, sit the UCAT (UK).

NTU uses the UCAT for every applicant; NUS uses it only for qualifications outside the main Singapore routes. The detail for 2027 entry:
NTU (Lee Kong Chian) | NUS (Yong Loo Lin) | |
|---|---|---|
Who needs the UCAT | Every MBBS applicant | International qualifications and predicted IB results only |
Published UCAT range | 10th to 90th percentile of AY2025-26 admits: 2690 to 3170 (old 3600 scale), about 2070 to 2440 on the 2026 scale | None published |
Which UCAT result counts | UCAT taken in the 12 months before applying: the UCAT 2026 for AY2027-28 | No validity rule published; the UCAT 2026 is the latest sitting |
UCAT ANZ | Only if also applying to a UCAT ANZ university | UCAT advises the UCAT ANZ only if you are also applying to Australia or New Zealand |
Predicted grades | Not accepted | Predicted IB accepted with a UCAT; other international qualifications need actual results |
Application window for AY2027-28 | October 2026 to typically mid-March 2027 (international qualifications open 15 October 2026) | From 16 December 2026; A-Level 18 February to 19 March 2027 |
Written application | Personal statement (300 words) and two referee reports | Portfolio: personal statement (500 words), CCA list, testimonial, referee reports |
Interview stage | MMI: eight one-to-one interviews, in person at Novena | Focused Skills Assessment, in person, in April on fixed dates |
Shortlisting and outcomes | MMI invitations by end of March; outcomes by end of April | Most outcomes by the third week of May |
Both are in-person assessments in Singapore for shortlisted applicants, held in April, so applicants living overseas need to plan to be in Singapore that month.
The MMI format is the same idea most UK medical schools use, so preparation carries across. Our MMI preparation guide covers how the stations work and how they are marked.
If you are applying in the 2026-27 cycle, your UCAT is already behind you: the UCAT 2026 testing window closed on 24 September 2026. The dates that matter now:
If you are in JC1 or Year 12 now, your test is the UCAT 2027. UCAT will publish registration and booking instructions in March 2027. For comparison, the 2026 cycle opened registration on 20 May, opened booking on 23 June and ran testing from 13 July to 24 September. A UCAT 2027 result is the one that counts for NTU in AY2028-29 under the 12-month rule, and for UK medical schools for 2028 entry.
From diagnostic to test day: a structured plan with 1-1 expert support at every stage.
For JC students, a summer UCAT falls in the middle of JC2, so most of the preparation has to happen in the first half of the year, around school.
Yes. A UCAT 2026 result is valid for UK medical and dental schools for 2027 entry (or deferred entry in 2028), and it is also the result NTU uses for AY2027-28. One sitting covers both applications.
See UCAT cut-off scores by UK university to match your score to UK schools, UCAT ANZ vs UCAT UK if Australia or New Zealand is on your list, and our guide to applying to UK medicine from Singapore for entry grades, the Singapore Medical Council recognised list and UK interviews.
You book the same UCAT (UK) as UK candidates, through your UCAT account, and sit it at a Pearson VUE test centre. UCAT is delivered in Pearson centres in more than 130 countries, and the Pearson test centre locator shows the centres near you. Testing outside the UK costs £115.
Step-by-step booking advice is in our UCAT registration guide.
Most Singapore applicants who need the UCAT need it for NTU, a UK application, or both, so the target is the top decile. The test rewards speed and technique as much as knowledge, and the Situational Judgement Test is set in UK healthcare scenarios, which are less familiar from Singapore.
Applying to NTU and UK medical schools in the same cycle? One UCAT sitting serves both, so a single, well-planned preparation period does double duty. A free consultation is the quickest way to set a target score and a timeline that fits JC2.

NTU does not set a fixed UCAT cut-off. Its latest published figures are for students admitted in AY2025-26: the 10th percentile scored 2690 and the 90th percentile 3170, on the old 3600 scale used for the UCAT 2024. By percentile, that is roughly 2070 to 2440 on the 2700 scale used from 2025. NTU had not published an AY2026-27 range as of 1 October 2026.
About 2070 puts a UCAT 2026 score inside NTU's published admitted range, and 2250 or above, the top 10% of all candidates in 2026, makes the UCAT a strength in your application. The 2026 mean was 1918. These are approximate translations of NTU's old-scale figures, and NTU also weighs academics, a personal statement, references and the MMI.
Only for some applicants. NUS requires the UCAT for Medicine if you apply with international qualifications or with predicted IB Diploma results. Singapore-Cambridge A-Level, polytechnic and NUS High School applicants, and IB students applying with actual results, do not need it. NUS does not publish a UCAT threshold or an admitted-student range.
For NUS Medicine, no: Singapore-Cambridge A-Level applicants are not asked for a UCAT. For NTU, yes: the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine requires a UCAT result from every applicant, whatever their qualification. You also need the UCAT if you are applying to UK medical schools, and one sitting can serve both NTU and the UK in the same cycle.
Only if you are also applying to a relevant course at a UCAT ANZ university in Australia or New Zealand. Otherwise NTU expects the UCAT (UK). You cannot sit both versions in the same year: multiple testing in one year is treated as misconduct and all results are cancelled.
NTU only considers a UCAT taken in the 12 months before you apply. For AY2027-28 entry, with applications running from October 2026 to mid-March 2027, that is the UCAT 2026, sat between 13 July and 24 September 2026. For AY2028-29 entry, it will be the UCAT 2027.
Yes. Candidates in Singapore book the UCAT (UK) through a UCAT account and sit it at a Pearson VUE test centre; UCAT's test centre locator shows the options. The fee outside the UK is £115. UCAT 2026 booking closed on 16 September 2026, and UCAT will publish instructions for the UCAT 2027 in March 2027.
No. Duke-NUS Medical School runs a graduate-entry MD. Applicants must have completed, or be in the final year of, a bachelor's or honours degree, and submit MCAT or GAMSAT results. The UCAT is used by NTU for all MBBS applicants and by NUS for some.

Ultimate Package students from our 2025/26 cycle, with their UCAT scores and offers, who trained with us for the UCAT, personal statements and interviews.
“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
“The interview prep was the part that actually moved the needle. Proper mock MMIs, not just lists of questions, and feedback that was honest about what I was getting wrong. I ended up with four offers and firmed UCL.”
“The Ultimate Package kept me organised from UCAT through to interviews. They knew what dental schools actually ask and tightened up my personal statement. Four offers in the end, and I'm going to Birmingham.”
“Vet applications come down to the written SAQs as much as the interview. Dr Rebecca went through my SAQs line by line, sharpened my answers and prepped me for the panels. I came away with four offers and chose the RVC.”
