Although specific work experience in a hospital or general practice is not essential, it is important for all applicants to find out about the realities of a career in medicine. Glasgow are keen to emphasise that work experience in a medical setting is not necessary to study medicine but it is expected that candidates will have at least spoken to a doctor such as their own GP about a career in medicine or have found out about a medical career through reading careers books or newspapers.
The University of Glasgow’s School of Medicine admissions team are extremely keen on interviewing only the strongest candidates, and one of their criteria lies heavily in the personal statement.
However it is now reviewed but not formally scored.
The admission team are looking for well-rounded individuals, with an ability to reflect, self-critique and improve on a regular basis. Therefore, it is crucial that you are able to portray an objective self-analysis of your skills, strengths and weaknesses in your statement.
Note: from 2026 entry, UCAS replaced the single free-text personal statement with three structured questions — why you want to study the course, how your studies have prepared you, and what else you have done to prepare. Any guidance above still applies; it is simply spread across those questions. For worked examples and a review of your own statement, see our medicine personal statement examples and review service.

The programme of study will have a focus on credit bearing courses in Level 1 Biology and Science Fundamentals, with daily lectures and weekly laboratory sessions and an additional bespoke Fundamental Skills in Medicine module.
The Fundamental skills in Medicine module is designed to develop the academic skills required to study medicine at university level to develop those independent life long learning skills, team work and communication skills required as a doctor within a clinical context.
Students receive workshops in vocational studies understanding professionalism and communication skills in a clinical context, managing their digital identity and an introduction to clinical skills in preparation for their clinical placements in both a primary and secondary care setting. In addition an opportunity to partake in short periods of immersive experiential opportunity in remote and rural medicine will be provided to students.
Within this module Team Based Learning is used as part of the learning strategy.
University of Glasgow Medical School Interview Dates for 2025 entry: December and January. Results are usually out by mid-April 2025.
The interview session will last around 30 minutes in total, divided into two sections: panel A and panel B.
The interviews are conversational, with no writing required at any stage of the process. The only part of the interview that requires reading is the panel B section, where the applicant reads two ethical scenarios and chooses one for discussion.
We have included additional time in the time allocated for this task in order to be inclusive of applicants who have additional needs. The scenarios are also very brief, only two or three sentences. Applicants will be interviewed by two interviewers, who cover both Panel A and Panel B.
Glasgow recommends looking at the following topics for the interview:
These normally take place in December with offers normally being made by late March each year. Candidates receiving offers are those who not only achieve the academic standards required but also show they have seriously considered the implications of a medical career and who display the characteristics desirable in a future doctor, as well as demonstrating a commitment, motivation and enthusiasm for a medical career.
Although specific work experience in a hospital or general practice is not essential, it is important for all applicants to find out about the realities of a career in medicine. Meeting minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an interview.
These are suggested practice questions based on publicly available information and past trends. They are not official questions from the University and may not appear in your interview. Use them as part of a broader preparation strategy.

Ultimate Package students from our 2025/26 cycle, with their UCAT scores and offers, who trained with us for the UCAT, personal statements and interviews.
“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
“The interview prep was the part that actually moved the needle. Proper mock MMIs, not just lists of questions, and feedback that was honest about what I was getting wrong. I ended up with four offers and firmed UCL.”
“The Ultimate Package kept me organised from UCAT through to interviews. They knew what dental schools actually ask and tightened up my personal statement. Four offers in the end, and I'm going to Birmingham.”
“Vet applications come down to the written SAQs as much as the interview. Dr Rebecca went through my SAQs line by line, sharpened my answers and prepped me for the panels. I came away with four offers and chose the RVC.”
