This blend of simulation and early clinical exposure promotes confidence, practical competence, and strong professional development in a collaborative learning environment.

The Discover Dental Professions programme is a two-year pathway starting in Year 12 for widening access students who are interested and have the potential to progress into a career in the field of dentistry, as a dentist, hygienist or therapist. The University of Sheffield also participates in the Realising Opportunities programme. With Access Sheffield, applicants meeting contextual criteria could qualify for additional consideration or a reduced offer.
The University of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry selects BDS Dental Surgery applicants using a semi-structured panel interview lasting up to 15 minutes, conducted by two academic staff members and one senior dental student. Interviews are held in person on campus (typically the last week of February) and Sheffield explicitly does not offer online interviews.
The panel assesses three areas: career exploration (motivation and awareness of current issues in dentistry), personal qualities and communication skills, and commitment to Sheffield. In addition to the panel, applicants complete a separate group-based interpersonal skills task assessing communication, empathy and compassion (also described in terms of respect and teamwork).
This is a traditional panel format rather than an MMI circuit of stations.

Your interview will be conducted using a semi-structured format and last up to 15 minutes. The interview panels comprise two members of academic staff and a senior dental student who are trained to assess you in the following three areas:
You will be assessed in these areas with reference to the information you have provided in your personal statement. Interviewers expect you to be able to demonstrate that you are well-informed about your decision to study dentistry and your decision to study at Sheffield.
As part of the selection procedure, we make an assessment of your interpersonal skills. This will take place as a separate assessment from your interview and will be a group task aiming to assess:

Ultimate Package students from our 2025/26 cycle, with their UCAT scores and offers, who trained with us for the UCAT, personal statements and interviews.
“Harry got my UCAT up to 2,590, working through the sections I kept dropping marks on week by week. Gemma then ran my interview practice so the MMI stations didn't catch me out, and Dr Akash mentored me the whole way through. I'm off to King's for Medicine.”
“The interview prep was the part that actually moved the needle. Proper mock MMIs, not just lists of questions, and feedback that was honest about what I was getting wrong. I ended up with four offers and firmed UCL.”
“The Ultimate Package kept me organised from UCAT through to interviews. They knew what dental schools actually ask and tightened up my personal statement. Four offers in the end, and I'm going to Birmingham.”
“Vet applications come down to the written SAQs as much as the interview. Dr Rebecca went through my SAQs line by line, sharpened my answers and prepped me for the panels. I came away with four offers and chose the RVC.”
