The BMAT is no longer used by any UK medical or dental school. If you are choosing where to apply, the scores that matter now are UCAT scores.
The BioMedical Admissions Test was sat for the last time in autumn 2023, by applicants for 2024 entry. Cambridge then closed the service that ran it. There is no BMAT to register for, no BMAT sitting to book and no BMAT score for a university to ask about.
Every UK medical and dental school that used to require it now uses the UCAT instead. If a school you are interested in once asked for the BMAT, look it up on the UCAT cut-off scores page and you will find what it asks for now.
The job you came to do is still doable. The test has just changed name and shape.

The most common approach was to rank every applicant by BMAT score and work down the list until the interview slots were full. That means the effective cut-off was an outcome of that year's applicant pool, not a published standard, which is why last year's figure was only ever a guide. UCAT cut-offs behave the same way.
Some universities added sections 1 and 2 together. Some looked at section 2 alone. Some used section 3 only as a tie-breaker or read it at interview. Two schools could receive identical scores and rank the same candidate very differently.
Sections 1 and 2 ran from 1.0 to 9.0 with about 5.0 as typical. Section 3 was marked from 1 to 5 for content and A to E for written English. None of that converts to a UCAT score, so an old BMAT result tells you nothing about where you would land today.
We have not kept this page's old list of overseas universities that required the BMAT. The test was withdrawn worldwide, and we would rather say nothing than publish a stale list of what another country's universities ask for.

The universities that used to require it have moved to the UCAT, so the UCAT is the admissions test to prepare for whichever of them you apply to.
Sections 1 and 2 were scored on a scale from 1.0 to 9.0, where about 5.0 was typical and anything above 6.0 was strong. Section 3 was marked for quality of content on a scale from 1 to 5 and for written English from A to E.
Universities used those scores very differently: some ranked candidates on a total, some set a minimum in one section, and some weighted the BMAT against grades. That variation is exactly the reason a single national cut-off never existed for the BMAT, and the same is true of the UCAT today.
Almost never as a published pass mark. The common pattern was to rank everyone who applied and interview down the list until the interview slots ran out, which meant the effective cut-off moved every year with the strength of the applicant pool.
For example, Lancaster ranked candidates on sections 1 and 2 added together, and for 2022 entry that worked out at roughly 8.9 across the two. That figure is historical and is included only to show the shape of the thing.
Not for a current application. BMAT scores were only ever valid for the cycle in which you sat the test, so even before withdrawal an old score could not be carried forward. If you are reapplying, you will need to sit the UCAT.
